Pattern ’08 webbing – An extremely difficult set to put together these days. This is a nice clean set that has some items looking unissued and some with average service use. The waist belt is a size medium and marker marked M.E.Co.1915 and stamped with a broad arrow. It’s very clean and only has a few small picks to the canvas. The blue enamelled water bottle is covered with a light khaki wool felt and is very clean. The water bottle carrier appears unissued and is marked H.G.&R.Ld 17. Bayonet frog is marked but is difficult to read. Appears to be dated 1915 or 16. The entrenching tool helve carrier is a very scarce piece on its own. It shows some fraying to the edges of the webbing but is still serviceable. The shoulder straps are clean with a couple of minor picks. Only one has marks still visible which are M.E.Co.1915. The small pack is the only item not manufactured during WW1 but it is the correct pattern. It has been blancoed a light green and is dated 1937, but is in excellent condition. The right hand ammo pouch shows some fraying to a couple of the pouch flaps which is very common on these. It is dated 1915. The left hand pouch again has some fraying on one of the flaps and is dated 1915. This pouch also has the modified closure system that is only found on the left hand pouches and was intended to help keep the pouches closed as the soldiers leaned against the trench to fire. Last piece is the entrenching tool carrier which again is dated 1915 and is unit marked on the rear 4SSR. A fantastic find that you just don’t see very often except in museums.
